List of famous Indian Hindu kings

India has a great and vibrant history that has influenced the whole world. Many amazing kings and emperors have ruled here and left a significant mark on history.

In this democratic country, you will see a glimpse of famous Indian Hindu kings and their ruling ability and here we are listing the brief detail about them so let’s have a closer look at that:-

Chandragupta Maurya

Maurya dynasty has a significant historical journey that raised many amazing emperors and kings and Chandragupta Maurya was one of them. 

Chandragupta Maurya was the king of the Maurya Empire and born in 340 BC and his territory was stretched from north to south and east to west by covering a huge area. His empire has been known as one of the largest kingdoms that earned popularity under the guidance of a great philosopher named Chanakya or also known as Chanka, who was a Brahmin and highly talented and became Chandragupta’s mentor. 

Chandragupta’s achievements and his life and related detail are written in different texts. At a young age, Chandragupta Maurya defeated the Nanda dynasty that was the famous empire of that time, and ruling the North part.   

Later on, Chandragupta Maurya accepted the Jaina Dharma and become a Jaina monk, and hand away from the whole kingdom to his son Bindusara.

Smarat Ashoka  

‘Ashoka the Great’ or also known as ‘Chakravarti Samrat Ashoka’ born with a golden spoon in Bihar and became the third emperor of the Maurya kingdom. 

In the beginning, Ashoka has focused on spreading his empire and covered most of the parts of the Indian subcontinent but later on, during the Kalinga Yudha, the blood of innocent people and violence changed his heart and he accepted the Bodha Dharma.

Today’s most of Budha Stupa and ancient monuments related to Bodha Dharma was developed by Ashoka and he insisted his children to spread the message of Budha in the whole world.

King krishnadevaraya

Emperor Krishnadevaraya was the king of the Vijayanagra kingdom and he became the king after having a great struggle with the Bahmani dynasty and Portuguese. Even many other active powers were also waiting to conquer Vijayanagara but KrishanaDevaraya proved that he is powerful than others.

Krishanadevaraya was born with a sharp mind and he was considered one of the brilliant kings of that time. He took some quick decisions to expand his kingdom and improved his city by making trading centers with other rulers.

His kingdom covered the three reigns and he allowed the Portuguese to start business affairs with him. Krishanadevaraya’s father was a commander in the army and ruling ability and discipline was the heredity from his father.

In 1529, Krishanadevaraya got sick badly and died and left a huge empire.      

Prithviraj Chauhan

Prithviraj Chauhan or also known as Rai Pithora was a famous and independent king in Hindu history. From childhood, he was a very sharp-minded and intelligent and can hit his goals just by hearing a single tap sound.

In 1179, after the death of his father, he accepted the command of his kingdom and fought many famous wars to expand his kingdom. His spouse was named Sanyukta, and they have various children but no one can be like their father.

His last battle was fought with Muhammad Gauri known as the Tarain war and Prithviraj Chauhan got executed after this war.     

Emperor Shivaji

Shivaji was also a dedicated and dominant Hindu Maratha king that was born in the Bhonsle family in 1630. His father’s name was Shahji Bhonsle and his mother’s name Jijabai. Shivaji had a great influence of his mother who was a religious lady.

Later on, Shahji got married a second time and Dadoji Konddeo became Shivaji’s administrator and taught many admirable techniques and fighting tricks to Shivaji.

At the early age of 16, Shivaji conquered Torna fort, and later on, he attacked and coquets several forts. Shivaji had a huge and well-trained army including navy warships.

In 1680 at the age of 52, Shivaji died and his eldest son Sambhaji became his legal heir. Shivaji also credited the name ‘Veer Chattrapati’ and maintained friendly relationships with Mughals and other dynasties.         

King Harshvardhana

Emperor Harshvardhana has been reckoned as a great Hindu king that ruled for more than 40 years and started his ruling period from Kannauj. Later on, he left not a single heir who can take care of his kingdom.

King Harshvardhana ruled the Vardhana Pushyabhuti kingdom and during his period, the first time the political relation built up between India and China, and Kannauj became an important business hub.

Harshvardhana was a kind-hearted person and traveled a lot to observe the condition of his people. He loved art and literature and all the artists were welcomed warmly in his kingdom. King Harshvardhana donated several funds to Nalanda University and also built a sturdy wall around the school to protect it from outsiders.
